For the year 2006, the term "Wiki" appeared twice in Google's top searches as shown in the listing below: (http://websearch.about.com/od/bestwebsites/a/googlezeitgeist.htm). Obviously, there is a growing interest in and use of Wikis in everyday life and especially among college students. After teaching over 200 students using a very good textbook, it became apparent that a textbook-based course was not the best way to communicate the excitement of entrepreneurship. The examples presented quickly became outdated as technology marched on. What was the norm when the text was written quickly became "old hat." The entrance of Web 2.0, Wikinomics, Wisdom of Crowds, and the YouTube effect were not envisioned when the textbook was written, in 2004. In addition, textbooks are becoming very expensive - $100 for the one used in ENTR200, which has risen to $126.96 (I'm told) for the new edition coming out this month (Feb 2007).

I have been using Moodle (www.moodle.org) since Jan 2006 with excellent classroom results. Moodle is based on the Open Source model, as are most Wikis. In fact, a "book" could easily be written in Moodle. At first, I attempted to use TikiWiki as the resting place for my "book," only to find it very tedious to edit. Pictures could not be precisely placed, text would not flow around pictures, tables were difficult at best, etc. In Jan 2007 Zoho.com announced its free Wiki, which connects seamlessly to their other products such as Show and Sheets. After a very short experimental periods, I ported all of my work from TikiWiki to Zoho Wiki where we are now. I have never looked back. My goal is to start using this Wiki @ Purdue University to support teaching of ENTR200K Maymester 2007 and keep it current until something better comes along. Hank Feeser 2/11/07
